Borneo Highland Penrissen Summit Exploration

One of the most prominent highland in Sarawak is the Borneo Highland, its famous for its close to nature resort, the beautiful Indonesia border view point, the Penrissen Mount Summit trail, the misterious Batu Panggah, and its beautiful landscaping near the resort.
This place also has a few magnificient waterfall, like this Simangas waterfall which can be seen on the way up to the highland resort.

The different between a millipede and a centipedes is that millipedes have paired legs, while centipedes don't. For this picture, can you tell its a centipede or millipede?
Wild orchid on our way to the Penrissen Summit.
Found this gorgeos orchid at the steep cliff, its very danger to go over and take a close up picture, I've already zoom to the max with my SLR and this is what I get.

This place are full of leeches, prepare some mint oil to get ride of this nasty little thing when it latched on your skin.

Tanjung Rhu Bako National Park Exploration

Some of the famous cliff view that I know
  1. White Cliffs of Dover, part of the English coastline facing the Strait of Dover and France.
  2. Beachy Head, chalk headland in East Sussex, England.
  3. Bunda cliffs, at the Eucla Basin that spreads from the western part of South Australia
  4. Uluwatu Temple, perched on top of a steep cliff at Bali
and now in Kuching we have..
Tanjung Rhu, Bako National park
My team and I camp there for one night, when we just reach the place, there is this wow factor. As we can't believe in our own homeland Kuching have such beautiful place. Such breath taking views of the cliff, and the scenery on the edge of the cliff are magnificient.

This Tanjung Rhu, a small penisular on the cost of the beach near Teluk Pandan Besar. A small headland can be view just not far from the rocky beach.
We can enjoyed non stop sea breeze here, my hammock its at the trees there, can you see it?
One of the problem here, is that there is no river for us to get fresh water. So if you plan to visit this place, make sure to bring enugh fresh water for drink, and bath.
This little rest house had turn into a camp for my team to sleep that night.
Look at the cliff, its pretty scary to stand at the edge 😓
such a beautiful scenery, my homeland is awesom!!!
Both of my friends are enjoying the view as well. You can imagin the scale of the whole place.
That night, my friends are cooked dinner with firewood that we collect nearby. And the yellowist watrer in the bottle are the fresh water that we collect on our way here.
We all just lye on the cliff surface, and look up to the starts and moon.

According to the locals, the water is yellow because there are logging camp on up stream

no electronic here, no mobile reception. Swimming is one of the entertainement here at the Ai river

5 Tips For Hiking In The Rain

01.   CHOOSE THE RIGHT TRAIL
On a raining day, there is no point for us to hike a few hours to the summit and in the end, not being able to enjoy the view. Most of the view will be heavily cover by fog that time.

I will not recommend you to hike on a trail which require you to cross over a stream, flash flood usually occur during this time.

Riverside trail, waterfall trail is good choice, the water volume will increase hence greater the view.
Forest hike will give you breathtakingly view when the fog comes.
02.   CHOOSE THE RIGHT CLOTHES
layers that keep you warm even if you do happen to get wet, starting closest to your skin and working out:
  • ·         Non-cotton underwear
  • ·         Non-cotton long underwear
  • ·         Non-cotton insulating layer
  • ·         Waterproof shell layer
  • ·         Wear a kampung addidas, it’s a Borneo local folks plastic shoes, which they use for farming. Its good to use on a raining day, or on a waterfall hike, don’t have to worry about getting wet.
03.   CHOOSE THE RIGHT GEAR
Use trekking poles when hiking in the rain, this will be great for balance, crossing streams, and brooks and going up and down hills.

Use self-locking plastic bags to keep such items as lighter, food, camera, first aid kit, books, maps, journal, and mobile phone dry.

Use waterproof stuff sacks for your gear, especially clothing. Use them in different colours to indicate what type of gear is in each.
04.   FOOD AND WATER PREPARATION
Bring food that can eat on the go like cereal bar, chocolate bar, keep snacks handy in your larger exterior pockets, for easy to access.

Drink from a water bladder, so you can have food and water on demand. No hassles on cooking the food, or getting that hard to reach bottle out from backpack.

You will need your energy while hiking in the rain. Body and outside temperatures changes require more energy while hiking and staying warm.
05.   KEEPING YOUR STUFF DRY
Make sure your backpack comes with a rain cover, if not always carry a big black plastic garbage bag to put all your dry clothes in.

If you have extra cash to spare, you can get a quality dry bag, always put your gear inside your daypack in dry bags, pouches or ziplocks.
